Mission
Provide a comprehensive and balanced PHE programme to help students pursue and enjoy a physically active and healthy lifestyle.

Our Key Programmes

1.       Physical and Heath Education @ BGPS (P1-P6)

The PHE programme includes 7 learning areas such as Dance, Games and Sports, Gymnastics, Outdoor Education, Athletics (starts at P4), Physical Health and Safety, and Swimming (completed by Primary 6). The school provides various platforms for the students to apply their physical skills, knowledge and attitude to enjoy active and healthy living and these include:

• P1-P2 Games and Adventure Day

Games and Adventure Day is organised for P1 and P2 students with the aim of providing them a platform to apply the psychomotor skills learnt during Physical and Health Education lessons. Students compete in the spirit of friendship, respect and excellence whilst demonstrating our school values of Integrity, Responsibility, Resilience and Compassion through various planned games. This programme offers young learners an opportunity to showcase their physical abilities in a supportive environment, fostering healthy competition and character development. Parents are also invited to be part of the experience, either as spectators or as participants in selected activities alongside their child, strengthening parent–child bonding and shared learning. Through engaging activities, students build confidence, develop teamwork skills and strengthen bonds with their peers whilst celebrating their achievements together.

• P3-P6 Inter-Class Games

The school believes that inter-class games promote greater participation in physical activities and enhance social interaction amongst students. At BGPS, all students take part in the planned games to ensure maximum participation. These inter-class games serve as a culmination of the lessons learnt during the semester and provide a meaningful platform to end the term with friendly competitions in the spirit of fun and enjoyment. The focus is on students demonstrating the Olympic values of excellence, friendship and respect, rather than on winning, as they apply their skills, support one another and celebrate participation together.

• P3 SwimSafer Programme

The school organises the SwimSafer Programme for P3 students at Heartbeat @ Bedok and Our Tampines Hub Swimming Complexes during curriculum time in Semester 1. The objectives of the programme are to allow students to learn basic swimming techniques and water survival skills, build water confidence, and enjoy swimming as a healthy physical activity. The programme consists of eight sessions of 1.5 hours each. At the end of the programme, students must pass both a practical test and an online theory test to receive their SwimSafer certificates. Students enjoy bonding time with their friends whilst learning to be more responsible by taking care of themselves and their belongings.

• P4 Outdoor Experience Day Camp

Since 2019, the school has conducted a 2-day day camp for our Primary 4 students. The camp aims to:

a) introduce basic outdoor skills,

b) build mental resilience and self-care habits, and

c) foster interaction and cooperation in a communal setting.

Students engage in outdoor activities involving skills such as orienteering around the school, outdoor cooking and team-building exercises. They also have the opportunity to experience basic indoor wall climbing at an external height-based facility, conducted by qualified instructors with accompanying teachers.

• P5 Adventure Camp

At the P5 Adventure Camp, our students experience a 3D2N camp at one of Singapore's MOE Outdoor Adventure Learning Centres. The school has taken a spiralled approach when planning the camp activities, ensuring that students are exposed to higher levels of outdoor activities such as zip-lining, abseiling and high element obstacle courses. This builds upon the students' experience from the Outdoor Experience Day in P4, where they learnt basic outdoor skills in preparation for this P5 overnight camp. The objectives of this programme focus on developing our students as independent individuals and building resilience as they learn to overcome challenges during difficult times.

2.       Grow Well @ SG and Empowered Kidz Programme

BGPS has adopted the Grow Well @SG package for P1–P3 students in 2025, focusing on sleep, nutrition, screen time and physical activity. The programme educates students on healthy lifestyle choices through age-appropriate guidance and personalised health plans, helping them to understand how these habits support their health and learning. PE teachers and Form Teachers play a key role by reinforcing these messages through PE lessons, classroom discussions and daily routines, ensuring a whole-school approach to student well-being. In 2026, the programme will be scaled up to include P4–P6 students, benefiting all students. Concurrently, the school provides additional intervention through the Empowered Kidz Programme for students requiring more support with physical activity engagement and weight management. The school plans and organises Learn-to-Play activities, implemented alongside HPB's Active Youth Recharge programme, to assist targeted students in cultivating healthier lifestyles and developing positive habits for life.

Active Recess Play

Students are encouraged to engage in active play during all recess breaks at BGPS. Equipment for various sports is provided, including footballs, basketballs, badminton racquets and rugby balls for P3-P6 students. P1-P2 students are given age-appropriate equipment such as small balls, sponge balls and hula hoops. Teachers are deployed to supervise and ensure student safety during play. Students can be seen enjoying games with their friends, building connections and team spirit whilst improving their sports skills. These active recess sessions provide an excellent opportunity for students to stay physically active and burn calories in a fun, social environment.

Active Fridays

Students participate in a weekly pre-assembly exercise programme every Friday morning, led by student volunteers and teachers from the PE Department. This provides an additional platform for our students to cultivate and engage in regular physical activities. During Active Fridays, teachers plan different types of physical activities for two distinct segments of students (Lower and Upper Primary) to cater to their varied interests and ensure better engagement. The school strongly believes that these activities will positively impact students' brain function and improve their cognition, mood, attention and academic achievement.

P1 & P2 Programme for Active Learning (PAL)
At BGPS, all our P1 and P2 students undergo PAL modules during school hours. Over the spread of two years, we provide our students with broad-based exposure in areas of Sports and Games, Visual Art and Performing Arts, as well as Outdoor Education. The modules offered for each level are as follows:

PAL aims to nurture the 3Cs in students, namely Curiosity, Cooperation and Confidence. This is done through planned lessons which are experiential in nature and students get to learn in creative ways. Lesson are also designed to be fun and enjoyable while social and emotional competencies are developed, and new skills and interests are discovered.
