Art Education
Art education provides students with opportunities to observe, imagine, experiment and express their ideas visually. Our Art curriculum is aligned to the Primary Art Syllabus and is designed to be engaging, relevant and inclusive.
Key Features of Our Art Programme
1. Authentic Learning Experiences
Students engage in meaningful art-making connected to real-world contexts, such as cultural celebrations, environmental issues and museum-based learning.
At Primary 4, students participate in Museum-Based Learning at the National Gallery Singapore, supported by pre-visit preparation and post-visit reflection using a museum journal.
2. Exploration of Diverse Media
Students work with a wide range of materials such as drawing and painting media, clay, yarn and mixed media. This allows students to experiment, make choices, and express themselves in different ways.
3. Environmental Education through Art
Selected levels explore sustainability-related themes (e.g. upcycling of materials) to help students understand environmental issues and the role of art in raising awareness and inspiring action.
4. Reflection and Assessment for Learning
Students are encouraged to reflect on their learning through self and peer assessment. Younger students build physical art portfolios, while older students maintain digital portfolios on the Student Learning Space (SLS) to document their creative process and growth over time.
5. Partnerships and Community Engagement
Students’ artworks are showcased through collaborations with community partners in the Bedok area. Selected Higher Ability Learners also work with professional artists through the Artist-in-School Scheme, culminating in exhibitions that provide authentic audiences for their work.
Music Education
Music education develops students as active listeners, performers and creators. Our Music programme emphasises joyful participation, strong musical foundations and opportunities for creative expression.
Key Features of Our Music Programme
1. Active and Hands-On Music-Making
Lessons focus on singing, playing instruments, listening and creating music. Students experience music through both vocals and instruments, building confidence and enjoyment.
Progressive Instrumental Learning
Students learn instruments in a structured and age-appropriate manner:
Primary 1–2: Resonator bells and unpitched percussion
Primary 3–4: Keyboard and ukulele
Primary 5: Ukulele and digital music tools
Primary 6: Digital music creation using GarageBand
2. Strong Musical Foundations (Kodály-informed Approach)
Our teachers apply strategies from te Kodály approach, using singing, movement and listening to help students develop pitch, rhythm and musical understanding in a supportive and engaging way.
3. Use of Technology to Enhance Learning
Technology is used meaningfully to support music learning. Performances are recorded to provide feedback, and older students explore music composition and arrangement using digital tools such as GarageBand.
4. Performance and Sharing Opportunities
Students are given opportunities to perform and share their learning during class activities and school events, helping them develop confidence, teamwork and communication skills.
