Angklung

Angklung is a traditional bamboo musical instrument consisting of tubes of varying lengths and thickness that produce different musical tones. In the Angklung/Kulintang Ensemble CCA, students develop discipline, teamwork and an appreciation for cultural music as they learn to play together as an ensemble. As they progress, students take on more challenging roles, including playing the bass Angklung and the Kulintang, allowing them to deepen their musical skills and confidence in performance.

The Angklung/Kulintang Ensemble has achieved the Distinction Award for SYF 2026.

Art and Craft Club

In Art and Craft Club, students explore, experiment, discover, innovate, create and share their artworks with the school and beyond. From tiny drawings to dioramas, we give students an opportunity to express themselves and develop their ideas. Students will find joy in using their hands to create art.

Chinese Dance

Our Chinese Dance CCA nurtures girls into graceful and confident performers. Through training, students develop coordination, rhythm, and the ability to interpret and express the mood of the music through movement. The CCA also provides opportunities for students to deepen their appreciation of this traditional art form. Students with prior training in ballet or gymnastics are able to further demonstrate their flexibility and agility through Chinese dance. Chinese Dance CCA is open to students of all races, promoting cultural understanding and appreciation.

Choir

The School Choir consists of soprano and alto choristers who come together to develop their passion for singing in a collaborative environment. Through the CCA training sessions, students learn to perform as part of an ensemble, where teamwork, discipline, commitment, and responsibility are essential in achieving harmony and excellence.

Students are introduced to basic music theory and vocal techniques such as voice projection, breathing control, posture, diction, and singing expression. They also develop confidence and stage presence through opportunities to participate in school events and public performances.

English Drama Club

Drama Club CCA provides a vibrant platform for students with a passion for drama and the performing arts. Through hands-on and experiential activities such as role-play, improvisation, movement, and performance, students develop creativity, confidence, and self-expression while learning to communicate ideas meaningfully.

Beyond the stage, Drama Club nurtures important life skills such as teamwork, empathy, resilience, and effective communication. The CCA empowers students to grow as confident communicators, reflective learners, and collaborative individuals in a supportive and dynamic environment.

Guzheng Ensemble

The Guzheng Ensemble is a traditional Chinese orchestra instrument featuring 21 strings supported by a pair of stands. It is played using a wide variety of techniques that produce expressive and vivid sounds. These techniques can evoke imagery such as cascading waterfalls, rolling thunder, galloping horse’s hooves, and tranquil countryside scenes.

In Guzheng Ensemble, students are introduced to traditional Chinese music, allowing them to deepen their understanding and appreciation of Chinese culture. The CCA also provides students with opportunities to perform at school events as well as participate in the biennial SYF Arts Presentation, giving them valuable performance experience and exposure. CCA Guzheng has achieved the Distinction Award for SYF 2024 and SYF 2026.

Malay Dance

The Malay Dance incorporates many elements - mood, expressions and values - which are important to the holistic development of a child. Students will be able to use bodily movements as a medium of creative expression, understand the importance of teamwork, dedication and commitment as well as be able to appreciate dancing as an enjoyable activity. Malay Dance CCA is open to both boys and girls of all races so as to promote cultural understanding and appreciation of this art form. Students are provided with opportunities to perform on both internal and external platforms to enhance their confidence, stage presence, and appreciation for the performing arts.
